What is a call number?

The call number is like the "address" of a book on the library shelf. Books are not listed by the title or author- they're arranged by the main subject of the book. ECPI Libraries use the Dewey Decimal System to organize books. Books that don't use the Dewey Decimal System are fiction books- these are listed by the author's last name. A typical Dewey Decimal call number for a nonfiction book will look like this:
