Should I use a citation generator?

Answer

There are many citation generators available, including BibMe, Son of Citation Machine, and the citation tools in Microsoft Word. While these may seem like an easy way to format your reference page, you should always be aware that the citations are machine generated. They are dependent on what you enter and the information available on a website.

Machine-generated citations may include errors that you will need to correct like capitalization or formatting- either putting information in the wrong place or not putting the information in correct APA style.  Even some of the citations from the library's online resources may not be 100% accurate.  Use the APA Style Guide to see examples of references for your source, and model your citation on that format.

Be sure to double-check all of your citations for accuracy. You are still responsible for ensuring you are using the appropriate format.
