What is an abstract?

Answer

An abstract is a summary of an article or book.  It can be just a few sentences or a long paragraph depending on the length of the article or book.  The abstract can help you decide if an article will meet your research needs without having to read several pages.

In the library databases, the abstract can be at the beginning of the article, or with the information about the article.

Abstracts in EBSCO databases are within the info about the article, below the Subject Terms. May also be at the beginning of a PDF if available.

Abstract in Gale databases is at the very beginning of the article.
